Q) How can a Keto diet help you lose weight?

Is this trendy keto diet simply just a new fad? Or can it really help you to lose weight? We explore the scientific reasoning behind this diet.

Essentially, a ketogenic diet puts your body into a state of ketosis, ultimately helping you to use fat for energy.

Q) What is Ketosis?

A) Ketosis is a metabolic state in which your body uses fat rather than glucose from carbohydrates as its primary source of energy.

By stopping the supply of carbs and sugar to your body, you can achieve ketosis. Once your body runs out of carbs and sugar, it depletes your stored glucose, which is also known as glycogen. As a result, blood sugar and insulin levels fall. As your body starts to search for an alternative fuel (fat), it then releases and burns it for energy.

As your body gets accustomed to the lower levels of sugar and higher levels of fat metabolism, it constitutes to other benefits as well. Ketosis is a known method of treatment for diseases such as epilepsy, diabetes and even cancer.

Moving on, as your body burns fat, it produces ketones. To sum it up, without ketones, your body is not in ketosis. Hence, the sole purpose of a ketogenic diet is to promote the production of ketones.
